Enchanting Gardens offers an environmental service which includes reforestation and re-wilding projects from tree planting to restoration/rehabilitation of environmentally sensitive areas and habitats such as grasslands and wetlands. We can also assist in the identification and removal of alien invasive species to restore the natural ecological balance.
Enchanting Gardens also offers exhilarating and personal garden tours of Devon and Cornwall's most beautiful gardens. The details of any forthcoming botanical tours will be announced once I have organized a schedule.
This service is charged for at an hourly rate depending on the geographical area and distance travelled.
Preliminary consultations with a view to providing a written quotation will be free of charge. This meeting will entail discussing the clients’ needs in terms of the type of garden they would like and how much they are prepared to budget for these services.
To assist the client in choosing an appropriate theme, we will present a comprehensive and colourful work portfolio illustrating a wide variety of different styles and concepts for planting and construction.
If your garden is already established and only requires refurbishment or maintenance, the cost of this service will be calculated at a nominal daily rate depending on labour, plants and building materials.
If however, you have a new garden and require a garden plan, the cost will be determined by how many hours it takes to complete the initial survey and subsequent drawing or design on the drawing board or by using computer software. Once a professional fee has been agreed upon, we can proceed with the next stage.
The main purpose of the design will be to produce a scheme which is both practical and imaginative using proven methods and design techniques to create all year-round interest.
Once we have established the exterior dimensions of your home and garden, noting the exact position of any other structures such as swimming pool, tennis courts, tool shed, patio etc.
It is also essential for us to identify any existing plants, noting their position and to observe the unique characteristics of your garden: the setting, soil type, orientation, prevailing winds as well as local building materials used and drainage conditions.
This process can take some time and numerous design possibilities will be explored and scale drawings produced which will be easy for you to interpret.
In selecting plants, we also have to consider form and texture, colour, flowering season and fragrance. Complimentary plants will be linked together to provide a harmonious atmosphere which, as well as being appealing to the eye, are also sensitive to the environment and support wildlife.
On completion of your garden plan, we will prepare a written quotation calculating the total cost of your landscaping project from start to-finish in terms of labour, plants, building materials, fuel etc.
The construction and planting of the garden can be implemented in its entirety or in stages,
thereby spreading the cost.
Phase 1: This is a time consuming, labour intensive and critical exercise that will best carried out under the strict supervision of our highly qualified staff or contractor who will be in possession of your plans who is familiar with the details thereof.
Flower beds will be clearly outlined and prepared, loosening existing soil, adding compost and relevant fertilisers. Any unwanted sub-soil and builders’ rubble will be removed from site.
Prior to planting, construction will begin on any hard landscaping, such as retaining walls, pathways, rockeries, steps etc. using good quality building materials. Once this process is complete, your soft landscaping will commence.
Phase 2: Planting: We will ensure that every tree, shrub, perennial or ground cover is correctly placed in accordance with your garden plan because each plant has different requirements in terms of sun or shade, water and soil type. It is essential that instructions are followed clearly and precisely when positioning them. Holes of varying sizes must be prepared using the recommended amount and type of compost and relevant organic fertilizer.
Phase 3: Turfing: Your lawn can be established from seed, grass runners or by laying instant grass depending on your budget. The type of grass chosen should ideally be a versatile, low maintenance and hardy grass that is suited to your local climatic and drainage conditions.
Your grass will be planted on an even surface of fertile topsoil, rolled, watered and fed regularly.
The lawn forms an integral part of your garden and therefore, it should be treated with care.
We offer a comprehensive and professional garden maintenance service which will ensure your new or established garden receives the right amount of T.L.C.
This service can be weekly, monthly, quarterly or bianually depending on the size, nature and complexity of your garden.
Your service will include pruning, mulching, composting, fertilising, edging and transplanting if requested. Re-planting can also be arranged at a nominal fee.
